This particular work constitutes a clear reference to Penelope, the wife of Odysseus. It is a painting that the artist completed after a whole decade.
Ageliki depicts Penelope sitting on a hill in order for her to have a panoramic view. The view in front of her is the island of Ithaca exactly as seen from the location where she sits. Penelope gazes at the horizon, with her back turned to the viewer, just like Penelope turned her back on life for 20 long years waiting for her husband’s return.
The young woman is adorned with royal jewelry, light hairstyle and sits on a dark red golden-embroidered cloak which is laid out for her on the rock, adding weight and symbolizes her heavy debt, her throne, her position and her lineage...
